Dance 4 Peace was born in Bogotá, Colombia in 2007 through research, design, implementation, and evaluation with Fulbright, Aulas en Paz, the University of Los Andes, la Asociación Alianza Educativa, and the Colegio Miravalle in Usme - La Marichuela. The Dance 4 Peace program is incorporated in a multifaceted peace education curriculum encompassing parental workshops, familial visits, classroom lessons, and smaller, more focused workshops. Since 2008, Aulas en Paz has been implemented in 27 educational institutions in more than 15 municipalities in 4 regions of Colombia through the support of the National Ministry of Education, the International Organization of Migration (IOM), USAID, UNICEF and 7 local secretaries of education. The Colombian culture of dance, music, and corporal expression pervade the design and adaptation of the Dance 4 Peace program.

“It's a fun and exciting way to get youth engaged while providing an avenue for them to be aware of themselves and how they can contribute positively to society. The program also creates a great rallying point to get youth to think and act globally. It is more amazing that Dance 4 Peace is a program that can be applied globally in differing cultural contexts.”
