New York City

Dance 4 Peace first came to the Big Apple in the fall of 2010, working with students at the Carol and Frank Biondi Education Center through a partnership with Leake and Watts. We have now worked with 1,010 youth in New York and trained 13 NYC PeaceMovers to both directly facilitate curriculum and support teachers and school staff in the implementation of the Dance 4 Peace program. We have worked with the following NYC schools and communty centers as part of our global network: The Carol and Frank Biondi Education Center, the Bronx Academy of Promise Charter School, the Community Partnership Charter School, the Morninside Center for Teaching Social Responsibility, PAZ afterschool program, P.S. 14, P.S. 222, the Renaissance Charter School, and the Trevor Day School.

Dance 4 Peace in NYC can be implemented holistically through the standard curriculum or in a workshop or assembly format. Meeting regional and national physical education standards, the program can be implemented as part of physical education, dance, theater arts, global or social studies, or civic or character education. Programs are also offered after school.

“It's a fun and exciting way to get youth engaged while providing an avenue for them to be aware of themselves and how they can contribute positively to society. The program also creates a great rallying point to get youth to think and act globally. It is more amazing that Dance 4 Peace is a program that can be applied globally in differing cultural contexts.”
